The palma de cera, wax palm tree (ceroxylon quindiuense), is Colombia’s national tree and a beautiful sight to see! They’re found in the high-altitude Cocora Valley, located near the town of Salento, in the department of Quindio. This is one of the only places in the world to see them in their natural habitat.

I saw hundreds of these trees while horseback riding in the valley and thought they were rather surreal looking at times, which is why I’m sharing this photo with you. Trees against a dramatic sky always get my attention.

By the way, the wax palm trees can live for more than 100 years and can reach a height of 50 meters. In fact, they’re the tallest palm trees in the world. Many were so tall that I couldn’t photograph them in their entirety

How about you?

Are you a nature lover? Do you like to see trees in their natural habitat? Or are you just happy to be in nature?
